That comment ("The iPhone has completely changed the way that I poop") is from the 42-minute video of Scott Hanselman's humorous and insightful
WebStock '12 presentation on personal productivity, embedded below and also available
here, at Lifehacker.com and
here, on Scott's Web site.
He made the remark while discussing multi-tasking — one of many topics he touched upon in his talk, entitled "
It's not what you read, it's what you ignore".
Ironically, I learned about the video by
finally firing up my FeedDemon newsreader after months of neglect, perusing about 4,000 unread newsfeed headlines, and finding a reference to the video in my
Lifehacker.com subscription folder.
I say ironically because in his talk, Hanselman (
bio here) beseeches us to get rid of clutter; to minimize distractions; to ignore much more than we read.
So, if you've ever found yourself overwhelmed by too many things competing for your attention (duh...), I encourage you to find 42 minutes to watch this presentation. Or find 6 minutes seven times.
Here are just a few other money quotes:
Do as little as possible as much as you can.
The less you do, the more of it you can do.
Don't put energy into things you don't want more of.
Teach a man to fish; start with your boss.
PS: Yes; I plan to unsubscribe from a whole bunch of newsfeeds as soon as I'm done posting this.
